Software pick – AVG Anti-Virus

In 2001 the Kournikova virus posed a severe threat to computers and servers everywhere. The worm, masquerading as an innocent photo of Tennis pro Anna Kournikova, caused millions of pounds of damage as it disabled computers across the globe.
That summer I was part of a large email group that was discussing the virus and how to defend properly against it. The consensus was that there was only one anti-virus package able to properly protect computers, the small, free AVG anti-virus from independent vendor, Grisoft.
AVG is now available in several flavours including a full security suite with firewall and spam-filtering. The basic package was updated this year to include spyware protection.
I can wholeheartedly recommend the free version however. I’ve always used it and unless something drastic changes, I probably always will.
If you need, as we all need, excellent anti-virus protection in an easy to use package, AVG is quite simply, one of the very best.
