One of the things I commonly get asked about with my Microsoft Press book Troubleshooting Windows 7 Inside Out is which is the best version to get, the paperback, the eBook or the Kindle edition.

I thought I’d answer this with a tour through the eBook options for the book, and you might be surprised just how much value you can get!  The Kindle edition is great. but did you know that if you buy the eBook you get the book in no fewer than four different formats?  What’s more, if you buy the paperback you’ll find a voucher in the back for free copies of all the eBook versions!!  That’s a paperback and four eBook versions for the price of one book (that’s usually discounted too).  How’s that for value?

The available formats, and one purchase gets you all of them, are APK, ePub, Mobi and PDF.  I thought I’d talk you through these formats and where you might use them.

iPhone, iPod touch— Grab the ePub or PDF and read in the Stanza App, Bookworm, or the reader of your choice.
iPad — Download the ePub or the PDF and read it on your iPad.
Android— Read the .apk or .ePub on your favorite reader, or download the ePub directly to your device.
Kindle — Get the Mobi file and load it onto your Kindle.
Sony Reader — ePubs work well on your Sony Reader.
Computer — Get either the ePub or PDF.
Other Mobile Devices — Explore the ePub with the mobile version of Bookworm.

All eBook versions are DRM (Digital Rights Management) free so can be viewed on any and as many of your devices as you like.  So whatever electronic medium you want to read the book on, from the Kindle to your Tablet or Smartphone there’s an eBook format available for you, all or which come completely free with the paperback copy of the book, or are available separately.

The book has consistently been in Amazon US and UK’s top 2% best selling paperbacks in 2011 and was one of Microsoft Press’ best selling eBooks of 2010 despite only being released at the end of October that year.
